County Detective (sworn law enforcement)

Salary: starting up to $69,846.40, depending on experience, with annual increases up to $88,025 by 2028 (under the current CBA).
Description:
The mission of the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney is to seek justice in the enforcement of the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in preventing and controlling crime, seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior, and to ensure the fair and impartial administration of justice. We strive to build a stronger office through recruitment efforts and to maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical requirements.
This is a SWORN LAW ENFORCEMENT position.
County Detectives are sworn police officers under Pennsylvania law, carry firearms, and are tasked with the enforcement of the law; the detection and investigation of criminal activity; the apprehension, arrest, and prosecution of criminal offenders; and the preservation of public order.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess certification under Act 120, the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Training Act, prior to appointment. This is NOT a sponsored position.
In addition to certification under Act 120, qualified applicants must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED supplemented by a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Salary and benefits:
- Starting salary of $57,532 to $69,846, depending on experience (see below)
- Annual increases to $88,025 under current collective bargaining agreement

Lateral Entry Qualifications:
The current collective bargaining agreement authorizes an increased starting salary via advanced placement on the established wage scale for applicants with a requisite number of years of prior experience as a dedicated criminal investigator with a municipal, state, or federal law enforcement agency.
For 2026:
- 5 years of qualifying experience (starting at step 2): $61,630
- 10 years of qualifying experience (starting at step 3): $65,748
- 15+ years of qualifying experience (starting at step 4): $69,846
