In November 2022, the Office of the District Attorney implemented an Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) program.

Coordinated by Detective Kim Lippincott, the OFR team meets every other month to review the lives of individuals who have succumbed to substance abuse and died from a fatal opioid overdose.  The OFR program seeks to review the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death, their life story, and interactions with law enforcement and other government agencies in an attempt to identify and implement programs and initiatives to better serve community members experiencing substance abuse disorder.

OFR programs throughout the country implement initiatives that help the community and achieve several different goals. Some initiatives that have been implemented across the country include harm reduction initiatives (fentanyl test strips, naloxbox program, narcan vending machines, etc.), stigma reduction initiatives (t-shirts, videos, commercials, and other advertising), and other initiatives such as leave behind items, like Narcan and resource pamphlets for non-fatal overdoses.
