The major crimes investigator of the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney’s Detective Unit is responsible for investigating all homicides, suicides, and other suspicious deaths within the County of Monroe, as well as assisting other law enforcement agencies within Monroe County with similar investigations.

Detectives assigned to major crimes are also responsible for the investigation of sex crimes in Monroe County, as well as assisting other local police agencies with sex crimes that occur within their jurisdiction.

Major crimes investigators work closely with the prosecutor assigned to these types of cases, assisting the assigned prosecutor with preparing the case for trial. As a result, detectives assigned to investigate major crimes have a direct hand in the investigation and prosecution of nearly every such case in Monroe County.

In addition, major crimes detectives assist municipal police departments and the Pennsylvania State Police with investigating serious assaults, armed robberies, burglaries, and major thefts, as needed.
